Tessa Thompson is an American actress, singer, and songwriter. She was born on October 3, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, to a father who was a singer-songwriter and a mother who was an actress. Thompson grew up in Los Angeles and was interested in acting from a young age.

She attended Santa Monica High School and went on to study cultural anthropology at Santa Monica College before transferring to Santa Clara University, where she graduated with a degree in theater arts.

Thompson began her acting career in 2005 with a guest role on the TV series “Cold Case.” She went on to appear in several other TV shows, including “Veronica Mars,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Copper.” In 2009, she made her feature film debut in the indie drama “Mississippi Damned.”

Thompson gained wider recognition for her roles in the films “Dear White People” (2014) and “Creed” (2015), the latter of which she played the love interest of the titular character, Adonis Creed. She also starred in the sci-fi hit “Annihilation” (2018) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe films “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017), “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), and “Thor: Love and Thunder” (2022).

Thompson is also a singer and songwriter and has contributed to the soundtracks of several films she has appeared in, including “Creed” and “Sorry to Bother You.” In addition to her acting and music careers, Thompson is also an advocate for social and political issues and has been involved in several activism campaigns, including the Time’s Up movement and Black Lives Matter.

Thompson has received critical acclaim for her performances and has been nominated for several awards, including a Primetime Emmy for her role in the HBO series “Westworld” and a Golden Globe for her role in the film “Sylvie’s Love” (2020).
